BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Ed Reiser's career in show business started many years ago in an I.H.M.
variety show called Parish Panic. It was held at Notre Dame and Ed
played the part of a jester. It was his first indication that he
enjoyed Hamming" it up.
In 1970, the Ladies Guild at I.H.M were sponsoring a show to be held at
St Michael's Hall. After trying out, Ed was offered a part in their
first production, held in 1971. The part was small, Ed appeared in the
last minute of the last scene. He was the long lost father. He wore a
black overcoat with wool carpet sewn down the lapels, (very impressive).
His family and friends were in the audience cheering and applauding like
Ed was the star of the show
This started the beginning of 24 years of involvement with the Melodrama
and Olio known as the I.H.M. Players and later the Belmont Community
Players. He played all kinds of characters, such as: the town drunk, an
angel, a judge, a colonel, a sheriff, the school board director and even
a female gypsy. Ed directed several plays and served on the Board of
Directors several times.
One year Ed was cast for the Olio, but all were thankful that they
needed him For a part in the play, since Ed had 4 left feet and he did
his best singing in the shower. In 1989, Ed was directing "Drusilla of
The Gold Country" and was unable to cast the part of the Angel. Since
Ed had played this part in the I.H.M. Players in 1973, he cast himself
as the Angel and had much fun doing it. The dead's man picture was in a
frame hanging on the wall and Ed was actually the character in the
picture frame who came back as an Angel. When he moved, blinked or
winked it brought the house down with laughter.
In 1992, Ed directed what would be his final play "Rosamund". It took a
lot of courage and determination, as Ed was mostly in a wheelchair at
this time.
Ed was always helping at work parties. His effort was 100% no matter
what the job entailed. Ed's enthusiasm, sense of humor and jest for
life lifted those around him.
The Belmont Community Players dedicate this show of 1994, "Alaska," to
the memory of Ed Reiser
