On a dark and stormy night, Purity Marquette, a working girl with a secret, seeks shelter at the local hotel and accepts the offer of work as a maid. Love soon blooms between Purity and the brave hero, Leander Longfellow, nephew of hotel owners Maw & Paw Kettleman. The villain, Mortimer T. Frothingham, in pursuit of Purity’s affections, shows up at the hotel soon after and, since he cannot win Purity by fair means, he resorts to foul.
