Dirty Work on the Trail

Go Slow with the Pony Express
 
A melodrama with olios written by Robert Swift and directed by Richard Leighton
 
The story begins at a Pony Express Way station on the edge of Carson City, Nevada. The station is run by Widow Mentary, her daughter Ella, and a mysterious woman, who walked in from the desert one morning and stayed. One day the local stagecoach had to stop there to get fresh horses, and the passengers disembarked entering the Pony Express office and there starts a story of hope and dreams, family and love, and treachery and deceit. So pony up and enjoy.
 
DRAMATIS PERSONAE
Widow Mentary
Runs the relay station. Her daughter Ella and Ms. Liza Loveless help out around the station. The widow has a cough that might be caused by pleurisy, allergies or maybe she just doesn't want her only daughter to leave town for the bright lights of entertainment.

Ella Mentary
The widow's lovely daughter. The lure of the stage is baited with false promises. She loves singing and dancing, and feels she has great promise. Ella wins a contest that gets her the monies she needs to make all of her dreams come true.
Roberta Stone
Liza Loveless
One day she wandered in off the desert and the Mentarys took her in, she is like another daughter to the Widow and an older sister to Ella. But she's haunted by her past. When Pugsley arrives, all the old emotions are ripped open and she is flooded with the horror of his treachery. What did he do?

The Stagecoach driver in need of fresh horses. He is much maligned by his passengers. Yet his philosophy is very simple. He gives no refunds, and takes no sass.

One of society's more wealthy matrons, from Kansas City, Missouri. Looking for a mate, any mate. She travels with a companion named Annie. Mrs. Hugankiss is outspoken, yet always the lady.

Travel companion and servant to Mrs. Hugankiss. Annie is from the other Kansas City. She doesn't mind speaking her mind in a polite but pointed manner.

Charming, well spoken, yet ruthless with no regard for the feelings of others. He is a grifter and has no problems bilking his unsuspecting "FRIENDS" out of their hard earned cash.

A human Venus flytrap. Every man's an insect to be devoured. Don't let her beauty fool you, she is sly and foxy. She trusts no one, especially Pugsley.
